“We only have one grenade at a time, let’s blow ourselves up!” Russian soldier complains of being sent without mountains to frontline in Ukraine

A Russian soldier was heard complaining in a phone call intercepted by Ukrainians that his unit lacked ammunition and also that he had not been paid, news portal TSN reports.

The soldier is heard saying how to give him and his comrades only “one grenade per person, just to blow us up”. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine made public the intercepted phone conversation in which the Russian soldier talks about non-payment of soldiers and lack of ammunition: “My family is hungry, they have no money at all.”

In the call with his wife, the soldier says his unit has no ammunition and they are given “one grenade per person, just to blow us up.” The wife also complained that she ran out of all the money, has already used the funds on her credit card and owes the bank 105 thousand rubles, but she has nowhere to return it.

The occupier promised to go again to demand payment of salary, and if he received nothing, he would go to the battalion commander to ask to be sent back to Russia.

It is unclear when the audio recording dates or on which side of the front the soldier was located. It’s also unclear where he was when he spoke. Business Insider reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment but did not receive a response.

Several press reports, as well as statements by captured Russian soldiers, claim that Russian troops sent to fight in Ukraine are not being given enough ammunition or supplies.
