Singer Britney Spears’ request that her father no longer be co-guardian of her estate, rejected by court

A Los Angeles court has rejected singer Britney Spears’ request to remove her father from the role of co-guardian of her fortune, The Guardian notes. The ruling comes a week after the artist filed a complaint with a judge, demanding an exit from her father’s guardianship, which she described as “abusive.”

According to the court’s decision, the request to suspend James “Jamie” Spears from this role and to designate a financial institution as sole guardians of the American singer’s wealth “is rejected without prejudice”.

When she asked for Jamie Spears to be removed from her role as co-guardian of the estate in November 2020, the singer’s lawyer said Britney feared her father, who had controlled her life for the past 13 years.

The 39-year-old Britney Spears was placed under her father’s guardianship in 2008 after there were signs of mental health problems. A year earlier, the singer divorced Kevin Federline, lost custody of her children and was admitted to a recovery centre following an alleged nervous breakdown.

In September 2019, Jodi Montgomery was appointed temporary guardian on personal matters of the artist.

In her court testimony on June 23, Britney claimed she was traumatized and wanted her life back. She requested that guardianship be terminated without the need for a medical evaluation. The singer also said that during this period she was forced to work against her will and that she was forced to be able to use a contraceptive device. Britney Spears is asking for her therapy appointments to be reduced, she wants to be able to get married and have a baby, which she can’t do at the moment.b

Britney Spears’ father denies charges

On the other hand, Jamie Spears, 68, filed his own set of documents in court and denied that he was responsible for the restrictions on his daughter’s privacy. He also asked the judges “to investigate the veracity of Ms Spears’ allegations and allegations,” claiming that he had only defended her interests.

Since the beginning of the procedures under the guardianship of her father, Britney Spears has enjoyed the support of her fans, who launched the “Free Britney” movement. Messages of support also came from other American artists, including Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears’ ex-boyfriend.
