“Such a decision is never easy to make, but I have to listen to my body and after talking to my team, I understand it’s the right decision,” Nadal explained on Twitter.

Rafael Nadal claims he doesn’t have enough time to recover from the tournament at Roland Garros, where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals to be at the highest level at Wimbledon and the 2020 Olympics.

“The goal is to extend my career and continue to do what I’m happy about, which is to compete at the highest level and continue to fight for those professional and personal goals at the maximum level of the competition,” said Nadal, who has 20 Grand Slams in his record.

‘It’s only two weeks between Roland Garros and Wimbledon and it’s not easy to recover the body after the ever-demanding clay season. It’s been two months of great effort and the decision made is medium and long,” added Nadal, who won two Wimbledon titles (2008, 2010), and in the last two editions of 2018 and 2019 he was a semi-finalist.

At the Olympics, Nadal won the gold medal in singles in 2008 in Beijing and the gold medal in doubles in 2016 in Rio.

On the other hand, the organisers of the Wimbledon grass tennis tournament have announced that the public will be able to fill the full 15,000 seats on the Central Court in the singles finals.
