Gaza’s Health Ministry says 120 patients are still at Al-Shifa

Gaza’s health ministry, run by Hamas, says hundreds of people fled on foot from Al-Shifa hospital this morning following an Israeli army ultimatum, which the IDF denies giving, according to AFP news agency.

According to the ministry, 120 injured patients are still at the hospital, along with an unspecified number of premature babies.

Earlier, health officials told AFP that “450 injured and chronically ill patients” could not be moved and a number of medical staff would remain at hospital to care for them.

Many people left Al Shifa hospital “carrying white flags,” according to journalists there

A journalist at Al-Shifa hospital told the BBC that he and many others left the hospital carrying white flags following the Israeli army’s ultimatum, which the IDF denies giving.

“The hospital was evacuated except for patients who could not move and a very small number of doctors,” journalist Khader Al Zaanoun said.

“I raised my hands and carried white flags. Last night was very difficult. The sounds of explosions and gunfire were frightening. The bulldozers drilled huge holes in the hospital yard and swept away several buildings,” he said.

Israel denies ordering evacuation of Al Shifa hospital

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denies ordering the Shifa hospital in Gaza City to be evacuated within an hour, saying it has only responded to requests from the director of the medical center who has asked for a safe exit for those wishing to leave, the Times of Israel reports.

“This morning, the IDF accepted the request of the director of Shifa Hospital to allow other people in Gaza who are in hospital and want to evacuate to do so via the safe route,” the IDF said in a statement.

“At no time did the IDF order the evacuation of patients or medical teams, and in fact proposed that any medical evacuation request be facilitated by the IDF. Medical staff will remain in hospital to support patients who cannot evacuate,” the IDF adds.

New video released by Hamas appears to show Israeli hostage in Gaza

A new video that appears to show an Israeli hostage held captive in the Gaza Strip has been released online.

The broadcaster said it would not release details of the video, which appeared on the Telegram channel of the Al Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari declined to comment on the video at Friday night’s conference when asked about it.

The Israeli military said earlier on Friday it had recovered the body of 19-year-old Israeli hostage Noa Marciano during a search near Gaza City’s Al-Shifa hospital — the second such announcement in 12 hours.
