Official: Dan Petrescu, coach at CFR Cluj. “The badger” returned to the Transylvanian bench

Dan Petrescu, 53, was appointed on Tuesday, August 31, as coach of the CFR Cluj football team, the club announced on its official website.

“We are happy to announce that Dan Petrescu is, starting today, the new coach of the CFR 1907 Cluj team!”, the club said.

“The technician who has won 3 of the last 4 championship titles with our team has returned to Gruia, and we, all of us from the CFR-ista family, welcome him and wish him good luck! We have every confidence that, through his experience and devotion, Dan Petrescu will manage to obtain notable performances on the CFR bench in the coming period”, reads the press release of the gruia club.

According to Gazetei Sporturilor, Petrescu is the one who, from a distance, “conducted” CFR in the game with FCSB, won with 4-1.

At the end of the game, Cristi Moldovan, the goalkeepers coach who led the Romanian champion from the bench in the match against the red-blues, admitted Petrescu’s involvement in tactical decisions.

“The badger”, with whom CFR won the title in 2018, 2019 and 2020, takes the place of Marius Şumudică, who was dismissed after the defeat suffered last Thursday against Red Star Belgrade, 1-2, in the play-off of the Europa League. In the championship, Şumi’s record was immaculate: six wins from as many games.
