Bischofshofen avalanche damages landing area on Paul-Außerleitner-Schanze: “We will be ready with repairs by the time of the 4 Trampolines Tournament”

The avalanche that took place on December 17 poses problems for the organizers of the stage in Bischofshofen, Austria, the last of the 4 Trampolines Ski Jumping Tournament, the most important sports competition of the end of the year, reports Bild.

The massive avalanche broke the nets and damaged the landing slope and exit of Paul-Außerleitner-Schanze.

“This has never happened to us before. We had a lot of snow, then it rained heavily,” explained Manfred Schützenhofer, president of the Bischofshofen ski club.

“We can’t say the amount of damage, but it will be a six-figure sum,” the official added.

According to the organizers, the final stage of the 4 Trampolines Tournament is not in danger, despite the short time until the competition:

“From Monday morning we clean the areas with the excavator and put the nets back. A truck went to Klingenthal, we will borrow three large snow nets. It will jump normally on January 6. We’ll be the cook with the reprieves.”

The final stage of the 72nd Four Hills Tournament is scheduled to take place in Bischofshofen on January 5 (qualifying) and January 6 (stage proper).

The tournament kicks off on Thursday, December 28, with the first competition, in Oberstdorf, Germany, when the qualifiers take place. The stage is scheduled for December 29. On New Year’s Day, it is also jumped in Germany, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (December 31 – qualifying / stage – January 1). The third round is hosted in Innsbruck, Austria, on January 2 (qualifying) and January 3 (round).

Norway’s Halvor Egner Granerud won last year’s “modern icari” competition. Austria’s Stefan Kraft is the current leader in the ski jumping World Cup stage standings.
