The Bucharest Court of Appeal dismissed Adrian Mititelu’s appeal in the lawsuit seeking damages of 300,000,000 euros after his 2011 disaffiliation

On 11 June 2019, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled that the claims for damages of approximately 300,000,000 euros were dismissed from the Romanian Football Federation fc U Craiova SA for the disaffiliation of the club on 20 July 2011. Adrian Mititelu, the owner of the Oltene group, appealed, but it was rejected, according to the Romanian court portal. The decision taken on Tuesday, 16 February 2021, is final.

‘Rejects the exception of the inadmissibility of the appeal declared by Mititelu Adrian Marin. Rejects appeals as unfounded. Orders the appellants to pay the sum of 11,366.84 lei in costs to the respondent Mircea Sandu. Definitive,” reads the minute of the court’s ruling.

Adrian Mititelu had won the trial in the first instance, which was initiated almost 10 years ago, but the decision was reversed. The owner of FC U Craiova 1948, a band re-established by the businessman and working today in the second league, appealed, but it was rejected.

Mititelu’s band was disaffiliated on 20 July 2011 after attacking a decision taken by the FRF in the civil courts, although it still had an appeal in the sports courts.

After disaffiliation, the players were declared free of contract, and Mititelu claimed to have lost about 300 million euros, using as an argument the termination clauses that players from his team had.

Adrian Mititelu has been in prison since 5 November 2020 after being sentenced to 3 years of prison with execution in the case in which he was charged by DNA for the transfer of striker Mihai Costea to FCSB in 2011.

On 13 January 2021, the Craiovean businessman was sentenced, on the merits, to five years in prison for continued tax evasion in the “Maxitec” case.
