Sorana Cîrstea won the tennis tournament in Reus, Spain, the third victory of her career

Sorana Cirstea, 33, won the WTA 125 tournament in Reus (Spain), endowed with total prizes of 100,000 euros, after defeating American Elizabeth Mandlik, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (1), in the final held on Sunday, May 7, writes Gazeta Sporturilor. Sorana prevailed in two hours and 15 minutes of play after saving a match ball.

In the decisive of Club Tennis Reus Monterols, Elizabeth Mandlik (21 years old, 147 WTA), being former Czechoslovak great Hana Mandlikova (four Grand Slam singles titles), led 5-2, but Cîrstea equalized at 5-5, saving a match ball.

The duel reached the tie-break, where Sorana prevailed emphatically, 7-1.

She was rewarded for winning the Catalonia Open trophy with 13,040 euros and 160 WTA points.

In the WTA rankings, which will be published tomorrow, the targovisteanca will “jump” 10 places, from 44 to 34.

The tournament in Reus is in the WTA 125 category, one that brings together a series of tournaments that are below the WTA 1,000. 500, 250, but above the ITF ones. 

Sorana Cîrstea thus won the third trophy of her career, after those in Tashkent (2008) and Istanbul (2021).
