Mircea Lucescu, Ukraine’s national ambassador to EURO 2020. Coach’s mission to Bucharest

Mircea Lucescu, 75, coach of Dynamo Kiev, will have to convince Romanian supporters to support Ukraine’s national team at the two matches he will play in Bucharest, in Group C of the final EURO 2020 tournament, REPORTS PRO TV, citing Ukrainian media.

The representative prepared by Andrei Shevchenko will play at the National Arena with North Macedonia (17 June, 16.00) and Austria (21 June, 19.00).

“Mircea Lucescu has agreed to be Ukraine’s national ambassador to the European Championship. He’s already in Bucharest. He began to make preparations for the Ukrainian national to receive support in Bucharest. There is an agreement with the Ukrainian football federation for Lucescu to make the Romanians perceive the Ukrainian national as their own. This will be Dinamo’s coach’s mission during the EURO,” said journalist Igor Gypsy.

Postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European Championship is scheduled this summer, between 11 June and 11 July.

The National Arena in Bucharest will host four games, three from the group stage and one from the final round, with a maximum of 13,000 spectators in the stands.

The third Group C match scheduled in Bucharest is Austria – North Macedonia on 13 June.

The final tournament of EURO 2020 will take place in 11 cities: Bucharest (Romania), Baku (Azerbaijan), Copenhagen (Denmark), London (England), Munich (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), Rome (Italy), Amsterdam (Netherlands), St Petersburg (Russia), Glasgow (Scotland) and Seville (Spain).

The Ministry of Youth and Sport announced on 17 May, in a press release posted on Facebook, that the fourth and final match hosted by the National Arena in Bucharest at Euro 2020 could be played with more spectators in the stands.
