“Everyone should have access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live or whether or not they have insurance.,” Jordan said in a statement. “Wilmington has a special place in my heart and it’s really nice to be able to give something back to the community that has sustained me throughout my life.”

It’s not the first time Jordan, who owns the Charlotte Hornets, has been involved to help his community. In 2017, Jordan donated $ 7 million to Novant Health to open two clinics in Charlotte. The donation came with a commitment to provide resources to communities with little or no medical care.

The first Novant Health Michael Jordan medical clinic opened in October 2019. Last year, it served as a test site and Covid-19, offering more than 13,000 tests.

Last October, the six-time NBA champion re-associated with Novant Health to open a second medical clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina.

To date, Novant Health said the two clinics in Charlotte have brought primary care, behavioral health and social care services to the most vulnerable communities in the area, receiving more than 4,500 patients and administering nearly 1,000 Covid-19 vaccines.

“We are so grateful for Michael’s unwavering commitment to help us provide affordable care to our communities that need it most. It’s not just an investment in us as a partner, it’s an investment in every person our clinics can reach.,” said Carl Armato, President and CEO of Navant Health.
