U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss this week at the exhibition event of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. The announcement was made by 19-year-old tennis player Romanian herself, according to Reuters.

Emma Răducanu was supposed to play against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic on December 16.

“I couldn’t wait to play in front of the fans, here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately, after I tested positive, I will have to postpone until next time. I am isolating myself, according to the law and I hope that I will be able to come back soon,” the U.S. Open champion said, Reuters reports.

The Romanian-born tennis player, named the revelation of the year 2021 on the WTA circuit, has been placed in isolation in Abu Dhabi, and the organizers of the event to be held from December 16 to 18 have announced that they are trying to find another tennis player to compete in her place.

The Abu Dhabi Exhibition Tournament will be attended by Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem, both after a period of absence due to injuries.
